What are you waiting for?

A great base is Shea Butter and for those of you with really dry skin, the relief Shea Butter provides cannot be beat. Shea Butter is excellent and is used in so many lotions. It has a creamy, moisturizing property that is great for skin and makes a wonderful base for a lotion. Try combining both cocoa and Shea Butters in your lotion for an extra moisturizing cream.  Many different oils can be added to your lotion as well, such as almond oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, even olive and sesame oils. The bonus is that all of these can be easily purchased here, at Mind Body Soul Essentials! There is still plenty of time to purchase your ingredients and make your lotions for holiday gift giving!

Make your own double boiler to melt your ingredients.  Use a medium-size bowl that can handle high temperatures (glass) and a cooking pot that is a little larger than your bowl. Fill the pot with a few inches of water. Add your ingredients to the bowl and slowly heat them over low heat. Low heat is the more gentle way to melt your ingredients to get the right fusion. When heating ingredients, the best way is slow and low. Stir the ingredients with a spoon or other utensil, if you need to.

Once your lotion has melted, add a drop or two of your favorite¬†Essential Oil. If you don’t know which¬†Essential Oil¬†you want, go¬†here¬†for¬†Essential Oils¬†and to learn what properties they have and what they smell like. ¬†

Natural Cleaning with Essential Oils

Essential oils are ideal cleaning supplies! They remove toxic mold, stale air, unpleasant odors, and kill viruses, bacteria and dust mites. Use essential oils to please your senses and at the same time deep clean your home.

Imagine your kitchen pleasing with the smell of lemon, grapefruit, cinnamon, or rosemary! Or your living room inviting with fragrant cushions of peppermint – a natural insect repellant. And pine, cedarwood, sandalwood, frankincense, juniper and clary sage are relaxing companions in your living room!

For a calming and romantic environment in the bedroom, choose rose, ylang ylang, jasmine, geranium, and lavender.

Scent your office with basil, rosemary, and lavender for concentration.

Scent the pet pillow with flea deterring lavender and peppermint.

Essential oils, vinegar and baking soda can be used to create many effective non-toxic (and wonderfully fragrant) cleansers and disinfectants.

100% Pure Essential Oils with no additives and are batch tested for quality and purity by gas chromatography.
They are available from Mind Body Soul Essentials in 5 ml, 10 ml and 30ml dark amber bottles with a no spill, euro style dropper.

Clean, disinfect and shine for pennies!
A straight 5% solution of vinegar kills 99 percent of bacteria, 82 percent of mold, and 80 percent of viruses.  Clean the dishwasher, coffeepot, windows, deodorize your sink drains, remove pet urine stains, grease from kitchen walls and mineral deposits around faucets.

Clean the coffeepot:
Hard water can clog a coffeepot and cause yucky buildup inside it. To remedy this, pour 1 cup vinegar in your coffeepot, fill the rest of the way with water, then run it through a cycle as usual (without coffee grounds in the filter). Rinse the coffeepot out. Fill it with fresh water and run another cycle without coffee to rinse the inside of the coffee maker.

Deodorize your sink drains:
Pour a cup down your drain, let stand about thirty minutes, then run cold water.

Clean windows:
Mix 1 cup vinegar with 5 cups water, and you’ve got a great window cleaner

Remove grease from kitchen walls:
Put straight vinegar and a few drops of Lemon Essential Oil on a dishcloth to wipe grease off kitchen walls, or the stovetop.

Remove pet urine stains (and smells) from carpet:
Mix about 1/4 cup of vinegar to a quart of water. Soak a washcloth in the mixture and blot the area several times.

Clean kitchen and bathroom faucets:
Soak a paper towel in vinegar then wrap it around your faucet to remove mineral deposits.

Deodorizing: Kitchen and Bathrooms
The kitchen and bathroom are often a source of odors and bacteria. Use the following mixtures to freshen, deodorize, and disinfect the air, work areas, cupboards, bathroom fixtures, sinks, tiles, woodwork and carpets! These blends are safe for the family and for the environment. Since the oils separate easily from water, always shake well and keep on shaking the bottle as you use these mixtures. They will deodorize and clean the air instead of just covering odors.

2 drops rosemary
4 drops lemon
3 drops Eucalyptus globulus
4 drops lavender with 1 quart water
Shake well and put in a spray bottle.
3-4 more drops lavender
Shake well and put in a spray bottle.

Or try pine with chamomile, lemongrass, or clove

Hardwood Floor Cleaner:
Add 1/4 cup of white vinegar to a bucket of water. Then add 5-10 drops of lemon, pine and spruce. If the floor is especially dirty, add several drops of dishwashing soap. This will clean even the dirtiest floor!

Floor Cleaner:
Add 1/4 cup white vinegar to a bucket of water. Add 10 drops of lemon oil and 4 drops of oregano essential oil. Oregano oil has powerful antiseptic properties!

Carpet freshener:
Add 16-20 drops of essential oils to a cup of baking soda. Mix well and place in a covered container overnight so that the oil can be absorbed. Sprinkle over your carpet the next day and then vacuum the powder up!

Moth Repellents for your linens and woolen:
Avoid toxic commercial mothballs made of naphthalene. Natural essential oils such as lavender, lemongrass, cedar, or rosemary can just as effectively repel moths and other insects. You can make a sachet by placing several drops of essential oil on a cotton ball. Wrap and tie this in a small handkerchief or square of cotton. Hang this cloth in storage areas or add it to your chest of linens. Refresh as often as necessary. You can also put this sachet in your bureau drawers to keep your clothes freshly scented. Lavender and rose are classic scents.

Laundry:
Essential oils may be used to enhance the cleanliness and fragrance of your laundry. As unpleasant as it seems, dust mites live in your bedding, feeding from the dead skin cells you constantly shed. Recent research has shown that Eucalyptus oil kills dust mites. To achieve effective dust mite control, add 25 drops of eucalyptus to each washing machine load, or approximately 1/2 oz to a bottle of liquid detergent.

In the Dryer:
Instead of using toxic and irritating softening sheets in your dryer, place a washcloth dampened with 10 drops of lavender, lemon, bergamot, or another essential oil. While the oils will not reduce static cling, they will give a distinctive fragrance to your clothes.

Painting:  When painting, add a 5 ml bottle of your favorite essential oil to 1 gallon of paint. Mix well. The oil will counteract the unpleasant smell of paint. Because essential oils are not fatty oils, they will not leave oil spots on the wall.  Lemongrass is a powerhouse.
